Max Bailey to coach Ormond’s Under 19s in VAFA
Hawthorn premiership ruckman Max Bailey was a VFL senior coach last year, guiding Box Hill Hawks. He’ll coach an amateur Under 19 side in 2021.

Max Bailey coached the Box Hill Hawks in the VFL in 2019.
Next year he will coach the Ormond Under 19s.
The Hawthorn premiership ruckman lives locally and has agreed to guide the under-age Monders in the Victorian Amateur Football Association.
Bailey was among a group of coaches to recently leave Hawthorn, where he had been on the coaching panel since 2016.
He started in a development role and took over the VFL Hawks from Chris Newman last year.
Bailey had been a skills coach at Richmond in 2014–2015. He then spent six months in Tanzania in a project assisting needy communities.
Bailey turned to coaching after an AFL career that brought him a premiership in 2013.
Knee injuries limited him to 43 games, the first in 2006.
“His AFL career was one of incredible courage and resilience having had to endure and recover from three knee ACL reconstructions,’’ Ormond president Richard Simon said this morning.
“As a local resident, Max is looking forward to joining his local community football club, and to also be back working with an age group that is his true passion.
“There is no doubt our club’s Under 19 squad in 2021 will have the best coach in the Ammos, and having had two long conversations with Max in the past 48 hours, the boys and the club have a ripping bloke also.’’
In another lifter for the Monders, Monders legend and VAFA coaching great Russell Barnes will guide the reserves.
“Ormond is indeed fortunate to have the experience, coaching skills, mentorship value, and passion of Barney back into the fold at Ormond for 2021,’’ Simon said.
Triple Fish Creek premiership coach Greg Hoskin has been appointed senior coach.
