WITH a surname like Cloke, you are expected to kick goals.
And that’s what Oakleigh Krushers spearhead Aaron Cloke has done this year.
MAHONEY LOCKED IN FOR TWO YEARS
Cloke became the first VAFA player to kick a century of goals in three years on Saturday when he finished with a bag of nine against Therry Penola.
Cloke’s haul took his season tally to 102 from 18 games, the first time he has topped the ton in the seniors.
VAFA records show he once kicked 22 goals in an under-19s game against Ormond in 2014.
Cloke has kicked hauls of eight goals or more in four games this year to take the Krushers to a third-placed finish on the Division 1 ladder, and a second consecutive finals appearance after being relegated from Premier C in 2016.
Oakleigh Krushers coach Chris Moore said Cloke, who has finished with totals 77, 57, and 69 in the past three years, was always capable of hitting triple-figures.
“He could have kicked another 30 goals, I’m telling you,” Moore said.
“We love having him, he could have gone anywhere to play his footy but he sticks with all his mates.
“He loves his local club and he’s a marked man every Saturday, as you can imagine.”
Cloke’s father Alan played at the Krushers, while his brother Lucas is in his first year of senior football.
Moore said Cloke had become a leader around the club.
“Everything he does is right and we’re very pleased to have him, to kick 100 goals in any competition is pretty good, isn’t it?” he said.
“He just wants to kick goals and play well for the team, but we’re trying to turn him into more of a team man and he is slowly adjusting to that and we’re all pleased with the direction he has taken in that area.”
