The University Blues are in a fight for survival in the VAFA Premier division after being found guilty of exceeding the 45-point player limit per game.

Blues president Tim Rourke wrote a message to the players and members just after midday on Friday informing the club of the penalty.

The Blues have been fined $22,000 with $11,000 suspended up until the end of the 2024 season and will lose 20 premiership points for the games it won and breached the rule.

The ladder will now reflect the Blues as being in equal last position on four points with St Bernards. Next above them in eighth position is Old Trinity who are two game clear on 12 points.

Points and percentage for the Blues have been stripped in the fives matches it won.

Therefore the club will lose a total of 360 points for and 275 points against. Overall percentage has fallen from 103.79 per cent to 87.72 per cent.

The $22,000 fine for the Blues reflects $1,000 for each of the 22 incorrect player point allocations that were made this season.

The fine is subject to any further transgressions of the AFL Victoria Player Points System Policy.

The Blues have been found to have broken the point limit in nine of the 11 matches this season.

Opposition clubs who played in those games including, Old Scotch, St Bernards, Old Brighton, Old Melburnian, Caulfield Grammarians, Collegians, Old Xaverians and St Kevins OB won’t have any premiership points or percentage affected as per the rules.
