Eastern Football League: Lilydale marks its 1000th game with another win
Lilydale continued its best start to a season in seven years with a 27-point win over Upper Ferntree Gully. Celebrating its 1000th game in the Eastern Football League, the Falcons moved to a 7-0 record after kicking five goals to two in the second quarter on their way to a 13.8 (86) to 9.5 (59) victory.
Riddell District Football League: Woodend-Hesket’s first win over Diggers Rest in nine years
In what has been a season of breakthroughs for Woodend-Hesket, Saturday’s victory over Diggers Rest might be seen as the most significant yet. Bidding for a long-awaited return to RDFL finals, the Hawks claimed their first victory over the Burras since 2009. Alistair Rae kicked the last two goals of a gripping contest which finished 15.9 (99) to 13.10 (88) in the Hawks’ favour.
Victorian Amateur Football Association: PEGS upsets Fitzroy in Frazer’s milestone game
PEGSgave club legend Andrew Frazer a milestone game to remember when it defeated Premier C pacesetter Fitzroy on Saturday. Playing his 300th match for the club, Frazer was named among PEGS’ best players as his side secured a 10.12 (72) to 7.14 (56) victory. PEGS came from 14 points down at quarter-time, kicking 4.6 in the last quarter to clinch its fifth win of 2018.
Southern Football League: Clubs vow to fight penalties
Two Division One clubs have vowed to fight a decision that has seen them fined and stripped of match points following an investigation.
A statement released by the SFNL confirmed East Malvern and St Kilda City had “been sanctioned for breaching the Player Points Policy during the 2018 season.”
It stated, “In addition, the Division 1 Senior Round 4 match scores of both teams will be annulled. The match scores will be altered to now show that Cheltenham defeated East Malvern 44-0 and Bentleigh defeated St Kilda City 55-0. The league ladder will be altered to reflect these changes.”
The two clubs were each fined $2000, with $1000 suspended “based on no further breaches in
2018.
East Malvern president Craig Roylance said his club would dispute the decision and St Kilda City coach Richard Houston said his club was weighing up its options.
Northern Football League: Dallas the King as Laurimar wins three in a row for first time
Second-year club Laurimar is starting to make waves in Northern Football League Division 3, winning three consecutive games for the first time with a 148-point trouncing of Lalor on Saturday. The Power are in contention for a maiden finals berth in their first season under coach Justin Sherman. Dallas King was the star against the Bloods, bagging 10 goals to take his season tally to 16 from three matches.
Victorian Amateur Football Association: French feast in Tigers’ thumping win
Travis French kicked a club-record 14 goals for South Mornington on Saturday.
French’s goal frenzy helped the Tigers to a whopping 24.18 (162) to 5.13 (43) win over Masala and took him to a league-best 34 goals in Division 4.
It was South Mornington’s second win in a row, lifting it to sixth spot.
The Tigers (3-5) face Mt Lilydale (4-4) this weekend.
Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League: Waters a chance for the ton
Upwey Tecoma sharpshooter Dan Waters could well be eyeing the century after bagging an even dozen against Warburton Millgrove on Saturday to make it 31 goals in just five games to start the AFL Yarra Ranges Division 1 season. Team mate David Bell weighed in with seven as the Tigers won by 134 points, 28.15 (183) to 7.7 (49).
