THREE sisters held the premiership cup aloft together after Sunbury completed an unbeaten season in EDFL Girls under-18s on Sunday.
The Prespakis sisters — twins Madison and Annalea and their 14-year-old sister Georgie — were members of the team which triumphed by 25 points against Pascoe Vale.
Madison, who featured for Calder Cannons in TAC Cup Girls and was named Vic Metro MVP at this year’s Under-18 National Championships, was named best afield after the 8.8 (56) to 3.3 (21) victory at Greenvale Reserve.
Proud dad Damien, one of the Lions’ co-coaches, said he would treasure the memory of his girls playing in a premiership together.
“Personally, it’s something I will cherish for a long time,” Prespakis said.
“Two of the girls play footy, the third, (Annalea), her main sport has been sports aerobics.
“She actually played a vital part in that grand final, all three of them did really.”
This season was Annalea’s second playing football, which is Madison and Georgie’s preferred sport.
Annalea is a national champion in her chosen sport and won a world title when she was 14, but chose to take up football to experience a team sport.
Madison, 16, will be available to AFLW clubs in the draft next year and will play in VFL Women’s with Melbourne Uni to press her case.
Georgie followed in her older sisters’ footsteps this year, named in the Victorian under-15 football side and being selected as an All-Australian.
Damien was at pains not to focus on his girls, heaping praise on several other players who were prominent in the grand final win.
Chloe Hodgson and Alisa Magri booted two goals, Terira Fry performed a key shutdown role and Felicity Theodore stood tall on the big stage.
“It was a really good season for the girls,” Prespakis said.
“I think some of the younger girls that hadn’t played before, to come in and have an impact in the grand final ... it was a good way to finish for them.”
Pascoe Vale led the division’s unbeaten side by a goal at halftime of the grand final before Sunbury put on the afterburners, booting seven goals to one after the main break.
The Lions won 10 straight matches during the regular season and finished with an awe-inspiring percentage of 2525, conceding only 48 points.
