ST Bede’s/Mentone Tigers stormed home to pip local rival Parkdale Vultures by a point at Brindisi St Oval on Saturday.

The Tigers trailed by 28 points with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter before kicking five late goals to get up 18.10 (118) to 17.15 (117).

Brayden O’Toole weighed in with three goals, while Simon Richards, Lachlan Mirams (two) and the ever-reliable Patrick Tyquin were impressive.

Mitchell Coen, Michael Barnes and Alex Smout bagged two majors apiece.

Thomas Redmond top scored for the Vultures with three.

Nathan Ng, Charlie Dillon (two) and Jason Bristow (two) led the way in an admirable defeat.

Parkdale should have better luck next weekend when it plays Old Brighton Grammarians at Gerry Green Reserve.

Meanwhile, St Bede’s hosts Hampton Rovers at Brindisi St.

In Division 1, Old Mentonians suffered its first loss of the season, falling to PEGS by 18 points in blustery conditions at PEGS Sporting Fields.

The bigger-bodied Bombers kicked eight goals to five with the favourable breeze, before two goals against the wind ensured victory in the fourth quarter.

“It’s always disappointing to lose but hopefully it’s a good learning experience,” said Mentone coach Mick McGettigan. “We just got beat by a better team on the day.

“We wouldn’t have dreamt in our wildest dreams we’d be 6-1. We’ve got a few tickets in the bank that we can use and learn from today.”

Captain Dan Maitland led from the front with a gritty performance to finish as the Panthers’ best, while Luke Hull (two) played well up forward despite being outnumbered at almost every contest.

Old Mentonians face another challenger in a top-of-the-ladder clash against Therry Penola at Keysborough Playing Fields this Saturday.

What a remarkable win for St Kevin’s.

It handed Old Trinity Grammarians its first loss of the season after trailing by 49 points at quarter-time at T.H. King Oval on Saturday.

St Kevin’s came to life in the second term, booting six unanswered goals in the last quarter to record a 16-point victory.

Veteran big man Stephen Gilham stood tallest for the hosts with his prowess overhead and two crucial goals.

Gilham was well supported by Conor Ross, Michael Turnbull and Dylan Jones, while Steven Salopek (three goals) and brother Jason Salopek (two) combined for five majors.

St Kevin’s (3-4) is two games behind the top four and can move one game closer with a win over St Bernard’s this weekend.

Elsewhere, De La Salle decimated Old Carey Grammarians to the tune of 82 points at Carey Sports Complex.

De La kicked away with seven goals in the opening quarter and was never truly tested, despite a 12-point margin at halftime.

Sam Williams was again dominant in another best-on-ground performance, while brother Jake, Liam Wood and Xavier Murphy were also prominent.

Sam Pickett, Adrian Indovino and Hugh Nicholson did the damage up forward with four goals apiece for the winners.

Old Xaverians fell to a determined University Blues outfit by 10 points at Toorak Park.

With scores level at three-quarter-time, Xavs skipped away to a three-point lead late in the last, before William Cuningham and Daniel ‘Dingo’ Batarilo coolly kicked the winning goals for the Blues.

Cuningham earned best-afield honours for his efforts, while Daniel Van De Pol. and Hugh Vickers-Willis were also influential.

Ruckman Lachie Howe, Matthew Margin (three goals) and Tom Williams fought admirably in defeat.

AJAX was outmatched against Monash Blues and succumbed to a 47-point defeat at Frearson Oval.

The visiting Jackas trailed by 24 points at halftime before the Blues piled on 11 goal in the second half to seal the victory.

Alfred Oppy (four goals), Andre Headberry (three), Andrew Young (two) and James Taylor (two) spearheaded the attack for the winners, while Maddison Hardiman was untouchable in the midfield.

Nicholas Lewis and Bradley Caplan led the way for the Jackas, along with David Fayman and Jordan Cohen, who kicked three goals apiece.

In Premier, Collegians slipped to eighth place after a 20-point loss to Old Melburnians in a low-scoring encounter at Sportscover Arena.

With the wind playing a key role, Old Melburnians made the most of limited opportunities to lead all day, winning, 7.13 (55) to 4.11 (35).

Thomas Penberthy, Matt Jenkinson, Will Johnson and Matthew Yates shined for the Lions.

Harry Croft, Billy Riddle, Courtney Hylton and Fredrick Sullivan kicked one goal each.

In Premier C, Caulfield Grammarians entered the top two with a convincing 86-point win over Williamstown CYMS at Glenhuntly Oval.

A 10-goal second quarter iced the game for the Fields.

Louis O’Keefe was a star up forward for the winners and finished with eight goals in a best-on-ground display.

Nicholas Silvestro (three), William Baker (three) and Timothy Nixon (two) chimed in with multiple goals.

IT took seven rounds but Hampton has finally opened its account.

The Rovers scored a 28-point win over Old Haileyburians at Princes Park on Saturday and never allowed the hosts into the game.

Their hunger at the contested ball overwhelmed the Bloods and they led at every interval.

The visitors had clear winners across every line, but none more so than Nathan Smith.

His striking speed away from the contest was spectacular and he booted a game-high five goals and earned best-on-ground honours.

Benji Audige, Sam Bradford (three goals) and captain Leigh Fletcher ran amok while Ben Traeger-Haig shut down VFL recruit Peter Shakallis. Hampton heads to Brindisi St Oval to play St Bede’s/Mentone Tigers this Saturday.

Elsewhere, Beaumaris’ inaccuracy at goal resulted in a draw with Fitzroy at Banksia Reserve.

The Sharks led for the majority of the day, before missed opportunities late in the last quarter cost the hosts another four points to finish, 10.22 (82) to 12.10 (82).

Without star forward Stephen Milne (unavailable), Beauie resorted to a taller forward line with Daniel Gribbin (two goals) and returning Lachie Boyd (one) the focal points.

Boyd made an impact in his first game this season with his booming left foot on full display, but had a moment to forget after missing an open goal which could have given his side the victory.

Thomas Dean, Matthew Petering, Scott Gower and Jack Grange (two goals) served the hosts valiantly.

Beaumaris travels to Camberwell Sports Ground in a top-of-the-table clash against Old Scotch this weekend.

Old Scotch held off a gutsy Old Brighton Grammarians to win by 15 points in a spirited contest at Brighton Beach Oval on Saturday.

Despite leading throughout, the Cardinals never put the Tonners away, with Harry Hill, Thomas Larkworthy and Thomas Mariani playing inspiring footy.

The ever-present Daniel Anthony added three goals to his already impressive season tally (18), while Jack Rutter also hit the scoreboard with two.
