Springvale Districts players are rallying around a popular teammate after a sickening injury more than likely ended his playing career on Saturday.
Bora Ork badly broke his leg in the reserves game against Cranbourne at Livingston Reserve, Cranbourne East.
So bad was the injury that the game was called off while medical staff from both clubs comforted Ork as an ambulance was called.
It occurred early in the third quarter.
“He was laying face down and his foot was pointing towards the sky,’’ Springvale Districts senior coach Kris Thompson said.
“It was shocking.
“The ambulance took an hour or so to get there.
“And he’s just lying on the ground for an hour.’’
The seniors game was delayed and moved to the adjacent oval while a stricken Ork remained on the ground.
Thompson said the injury “rocked’’ his players as they took on Cranbourne in the seniors.
Cranbourne won the seniors contest by 100 points.
“Our mate’s laying on the ground and we’re just continuing on playing footy,’’ Thompson said.
“The ambulance was there. It wasn’t ideal.
“They kicked 11 goals to one in the first quarter. Look, we would have lost regardless but the boys’ heads probably weren’t in the game.
“I know coaching I was looking across the ground at him just hoping he was okay.’’
Incredibly, it was almost five years to the day that Ork suffered a similar broken leg injury.
“He’s pretty shattered, he’s an emotional type of guy and he’s well loved, he’s one of the best guys you’ll ever meet,’’ Thompson said.
“We just really feel for him, he’s one of the most loved players at the club. A great guy.’’
Ork, a tradie, faces time off work while he recovers.
Thompson said there’s “no way’’ he would play again.
“It’s really rocked us,’’ he said.
“Everyone at Cranbourne was really good, the trainers, there was genuine concern for him. They were great.
“It was a day to forget. It’s really rocked me, I’ll be honest. I’m really feeling for him. I know everyone else is as well.’’
