Red Hill’s women’s football side is going places, and next season we will know exactly where and how far.

Its players will wear a GPS player tracking system — just like AFL players — in what coach Shane Ramsay claims to be a female-first on the Mornington Peninsula.

The system will measure players’ speed, distance and power and positional heat maps.

Ramsay says it will take players’ performances to the next level.

“We will be the only girls team down here to wear them,” Ramsay said.

“We are looking at getting a bit more professional.”

Ramsay played senior footy at Red Hill for more than a quarter of a century and had a blast.

But he says coaching the women’s side has been a highlight of his footy career.

“The girls, they just want to learn,” he said.

“They’re passionate about it.”

The Red Hill women’s side, known as the Hillies, has been a great outlet for women to overcome set backs, such as Paris Hourn and Leeonie Gray.

Paris was told she shouldn’t play footy again because of an illness called immune thrombocytopenia purpura. But she overcame the odds to play three games this year.

Leeonie almost died in a car accident four-and-a-half years ago, but, at 47, she played footy for the first time, turning out in every game at Red Hill last season, the experience helping with her recovery and rehab.
