St Paul’s McKinnon has received a “big lift” on the eve of the Southern league finals, with superstar Matthew Kreymborg making a swift recovery from a serious leg injury.

Kreymborg will play this weekend against Springvale Districts just six weeks after fracturing his leg.

Kreymborg was injured bravely running back with the flight of the ball against Mordialloc in round 12.

At the time he was scooting away with the league goal kicking (42 goals) and was mounting a strong case for his third league medal.

Kreymborg’s return is a timely one for the Bulldogs, who face the Demons (fourth) and Dingley (third) in the final two weeks before finals.

Bulldogs’ coach Andy Scott said Kreymborg’s dedication to recovery was “really impressive”.

“He was very diligent following instructions from his medical team,” he said.

“At this level, guys have got work, life commitments and rehab isn’t that high on their priority list – Krem was the complete opposite.

“He went to the nth degree to make sure he was back as quick as he could be, doing everything possible.

“A nice little trip overseas might have helped as well, spending a couple of weeks on the bench with his leg up, that might’ve helped.”

The Bulldogs have had their fair share of injuries to date, with over 20 unavailable across both seniors and reserves this week.

Scott said welcoming one back – and a big one at that – was a huge boost for the Doggies.

“It’s a big lift to the group, not only from a playing point of view but another on-field leader back to the group,” he said.

“We’ve lost a few of those over the last month, so to have the skipper back in has given everyone around the club a real push for what’s hopefully about to come.”

St Paul’s McKinnon has already secured a double chance.
