An “innovative” voice will direct St Paul’s McKinnon in 2024 and beyond as the Bulldogs search for immediate premiership success.
Andrew Scott will coach the Dogs after a string of successful stints as a senior assistant.
Scott’s most recent role was at Rowville, which was just crowned kings of the Eastern league.
St Paul’s McKinnon president Paul Commerford said Scott was the obvious choice.
“Out of the eight or so people, he was a standout by far,” he said.
“Because he’s young, we think he can relate to our senior playing group with his vouching style.
“He had some innovative coaching techniques that we think will fit in really well.
“It felt right from the start.”
Prior to joining Rowville, Scott was a senior assistant coach at Collegians in the Victorian Amateur competition where he was a star player beforehand.
His playing record speaks for itself, winning three premierships and best afield in the 2012 grand final.
Commerford said Scott’s finals experience was pivotal in the Dogs’ quest for a coach.
“It’s super important,” he said.
“The relation to situations, pre-game and during the game, remaining calm and not being overwhelmed, that experience goes a long way.
“A new voice, a new coach and a new buy-in during pre-season and the winter months, I think, can get our playing group a premiership.”
