A Southern league club has taken on a “different perspective” in its bid to improve in 2024 with a quirky learning strategy.

Lyndhurst is taking to the sky to improve in 2024.

New Lightning coach Andy Clarke has his group learning a methodical zone and has implemented a drone to fast track its development.

A drone films a birds-eye view of the drill before Clarke and his players assess the footage on a big screen.

“We only get about 10 minutes of footage but that’s about all you need,” Clarke said.

“It’s just to get a better perspective about how blokes are setting up and where they are setting up.

“Other clubs in the MPFNL have done it before and it has worked for some of them, so it should work for us.”

Clarke, who carved out his playing and early coaching career in the Mornington Peninsula league, said he picked it up from a couple of recent premiership coaches in that league.

“My mate Josh Beard coaches Langwarrin and he has done it before, Pines has done it before as well,” he said.

“I thought it was worth a try, so I put it to the players and the players seemed all for it, so we went ahead with it.

“We won’t look at it every week, maybe once a month, to see how we’re going.

“Once we filmed it we get it chopped up into a 10 or 15 minute segment for what we think we need and then we show it.”

Lyndhurst starts its season with Narre South Saints on the road.
