Mack is back.
Highett has received a big boost in the form of star ruck Macklin Raine.
Raine returns to Turner Rd after playing at Seaford in the Mornington Peninsula league, where he was one of the stars of the competition.
He is recovering from an ACL injury but will be a non-playing assistant coach under Dogs mentor Clint Einsiedel until he returns to full fitness.
Raine’s return as a player is unknown but Bulldogs president Daniel Booth is confident his guidance will push his club closer to premiership contention.
“He most likely won’t play until likely the back end of next year, or even the next year,” he said.
“He’s coming mainly as an assistant coach.
“He was obviously one of the best rucks in the comp in Mornington Peninsula, but he will probably bring more during the week.
“He’s an organised man, he doesn’t drink, he’s very professional – that’s what appeals to us – he takes it really serious.
“He loves working with ruckmen… h will be in charge of the rucks and mids as well, teaching them the craft.
“He’s here to win, which is what we’re excited about.”
The Bulldogs made it to the first semi-final this year, losing to eventual grand finalists Murrumbeena.
