Frankston Dolphins coach Taylor Stratton said his side “ticked a few boxes” on Saturday.

Coming off back-to-back defeats, the Dolphins returned to the winners’ list with a resounding 15.13 (103) to 9.5 (59) win over Black Rock.

The Dolphins kicked seven goals in a rampant first quarter to set up the 44-point triumph.

Stratton said the Dolphins needed some time to adjust to the new faces but showed signs at the weekend.

“You can see they are slowly starting to find their feet as a new group,” he said.

“Everyone is getting to know each other, how they play, where they move and stuff like that.

“The improvement has come from playing that team brand of footy, which was driven from the get-go and it takes a little bit of time to come to fruition with the new faces.

“We definitely ticked a few boxes on the weekend, that’s for sure.”

Peter Mawson took home the club’s Anzac round medal in his two-goal performance while two young guns impressed the coach.

“Our pressure was through the roof, all the way through,” he said.

“Pistol’ Pete Mawson was very good.

“Our young boys Johnny Ogilvy and Tommy Limpens have started very well.

“They give it their all every week, they never miss training, train hard and are reaping the rewards big time.

“I am looking forward to them grow throughout the year, they’re very handy.”

Heatherton, meanwhile, grabbed its third straight win with a 12.4 (76) to 8.10 (58) victory over Lyndhurst.

The Tunners begun their season with an 84-point loss but now sit outright third on the ladder.

Coach Matt Shorey is pleased with the Tunners’ spin of form but is aware of how quickly it can change.

“We’ve got a whole new game plan with the new guys to our team, so it takes a while,” Shorey said.

“I don’t think we’re fully connected yet but we’re getting better, you can see it, it’s starting to happen for us.

“It’s a really good spot for the club to be in, the 19s are smashing it as well, but we can’t be complacent … you can see that you can drop a few games really easily.

“We’ve got to be on our game every week, which is really good for the league, it’s anyone’s game really.”

Justin Kiss booted five goals and Callum Cusack was best afield for the Tunners.

Carrum Patterson Lakes recorded another thumping win, defeating Ashwood 21.13 (139) to 7.7 (49) while South Mornington remain undefeated after its 22.10 (142) to 2.5 (17) thrashing of Narre South Saints.
