SFNL: Every Division 1 club submit their vote on topical questions

We‘ve posed the big questions to all of the Southern league division 1 coaches to find out their flag favourites, the one opposition player they dream of and more. See their answers.

As the pointy end of the season approaches, so do the end of year accolades.

Dominant years are rewarded with premierships, league best and fairest medals and Team of the Year appearances.

We posed five questions to the 10 Southern league Division 1 clubs, seeking their anonymous and self-excluded answers to reveal the true perception of the 2023 season.

Here is where they directed their votes...

Themselves excluded, it appears all coaches believe the remainder of 2023 is a two horse race. Cranbourne has a proven record on the big stage while Cheltenham has a rejuvenation of youth that is causing Rosellas supporters to believe. Barring a disaster for either club, both the Eagles and Rosellas should finish one and two on the ladder.

Cranbourne’s Zak Roscoe earns the selection of 50 per cent of clubs after a sizzling start to the year. The premiership Eagle finished sixth in 2022 with 16 votes but it’s hard to not see him have that many votes by Round 6 of 2023.

Despite collecting seven of a possible 10 votes for the league medal, Shem Tatupu and Zak Roscoe only gathered three here, as clubs acted on need rather than the best available option. Springvale Districts’ Matt Wetering surfaces as the most in-demand player.

One with extreme experience, one just starting out their coaching career — Cheltenham’s Des Ryan ties this vote with Dingley newcomer Zach Horsley. Both in many respects have completed a similar role in regenerating their side through youth while remaining an unquestionable force.

Dingley speedster Lachie Lamble has run away with the vote of confidence from his peers. Hot on his heels however is a trio of young guns from rival clubs. Lamble has missed the last month of footy and will be welcome return for the Dingoes this weekend.
