Previously adrift from premiership contention, Endeavour Hills coach Matt Peake says the Falcons’ hard work is starting to pay off.

His side sits five from five and faces the opportunity of being the only Division 3 side without a blemish if they’re to knock off fellow undefeated side Frankston Dolphins this Saturday.

East Brighton (Division 2) and South Mornington (Division 4) are the only other Southern league outfits that enter Round 6 without a loss.

Last Saturday’s 19.15 (129) to 5.5 (35) victory over Heatherton was the first time the Falcons have won five matches in a row since 2018 – the last time Endeavour Hills featured in a grand final.

Peake says the club has been working tirelessly at finding a recipe for success.

“It’s been a couple of years in the making,” he says.

“We’ve been getting our system into place and we’re really starting to see that take shape, that’s been the main key to it.

“We’ve had a couple of new recruits and some younger guys come up but I think it’s just been a few years in the making.

“The other positive is that we have a lot of depth this year, we had a great pre-season but we had a lot of little injuries.

“In the first round I think we had four injuries out of the seniors and then we had three in Round 2, then another four in Round 3 – at that stage we were getting a lot of injuries.”

With the currently winless Clayton the following week, the Falcons have the opportunity to go through the entire league with a flawless record.

But Peake isn’t looking beyond the Dolphins as he knows first-hand how quickly a smooth run can unravel.

“Clearly they’re one of the top sides too,” he says.

“They were probably a bit stiff to maybe not finish off with a flag, we know they’re going to be tough, we actually played them in a practice match at the start of last year.

“Going into that year we thought geez they’re going to be tough to beat, we know it’ll be tough but it’s just about playing our best footy and tinkering things.

“We think every week is as important as the next.

“This time last year we had a heap of injuries and we didn’t get the wins, I think we were 1-5 at this point last year, so we certainly aren’t getting ahead of ourselves.

“We’re taking each week as it comes.”

Elsewhere in Division 3 at the weekend, Frankston Dolphins smashed Clayton 23.14 (152) to 9.1 (55); Carrum Patterson Lakes defeated Lyndhurst 15.16 (106) to 7.9 (51) and Ashwood got the best of Narre South Saints 17.15 (117) to 5.11 (41).
