SFNL: A Dingley duo have compiled two ‘all-time’ local performances

A Southern Football Netball League pair have produced two of the all-time statistical performances in the same game. Here are the details.

The very first contest was indicative of how the day would follow.

Dingley’s Lucas Walmsley won the clearance and sent it inside 50 to a leading ‘Manny’ Dolan.

The Dingoes’ duo wouldn’t succinctly link up on this occasion but would certainly make up for it over the course of Saturday’s massacre of St Kilda City.

Both Walmsley and Dolan proceeded to produce two of the best statistical performances of the Southern league Division 1 season.

Walmsley, a two-time Southern league best and fairest winner, found the footy a whopping 53 times while Dolan kicked 11 goals.

Dolan had 29 possessions himself and took 19 marks – 18 of which were inside 50.

Walmsley, meanwhile, had nine clearances, 11 inside 50s and 22 score involvements.

Dingoes’ coach Zach Horsley was forced to isolate the two performances when giving his best and says doing so was nearly impossible.

“I don’t think you really can, to be honest,” he said of separating the performances.

“Manny has taken 19 marks and virtually all of them were inside 50, that’s a highly-rated statistical area that we had a high focus on.

“While the ball was put to him pretty well, you still have to go out and do the job.”

Horsley added that Walmsley’s performance should surprise few with his imperious record in the competition.

“He missed a month of football (rough conduct charge), so he’s done a mini pre-season, a mini reset,” he said.

“He’s been chomping at the bit to get out there and get going – he was good against Mordialloc without being fantastic but in his second game back he’s put one of the all-timers up there.

“With his record, there’s no real surprise of him doing that.”

The Dingoes eviscerated the Saints 33.19 (217) to 1.1 (7) to launch into third position.

Horsley says the way Dingley moved the ball during the big win will give his side immense confidence going forward.

“I feel like St Kilda have got their challenges but for us our ball movement and skill execution were really pleasing,” he said.

“We went at 81 per cent, I don’t think I have ever seen a team go at that disposal efficiency ever.

“They are a bit down and out but we executed our skills and moved the ball the way we needed, it’s going to give us some confidence going into the last few home and away rounds and then hopefully it carries into a finals series.”
