SFNL 2025: Doveton Eagles have parted way with senior coach Cameron Coupar

A Southern league club has decided to part ways with its senior coach. Read what the Eagles president had to say about the decision.

The Doveton Eagles and senior coach Cameron Coupar have parted ways.

The winless Doveton Eagles have opted for a change in direction after parting ways with senior coach Cameron Coupar.

The battling Southern Football Netball League has fallen on tough times in Division 4 and sits last on the ladder with an 0-8 record.

“Just going in a different direction, that was pretty much about it, no bad blood,” Doveton president Michael Odgers said.

“It’s a club decision, hopefully for the Eagles to move forward in 2026 … it was a tough decision for the future of the club.

“It’s not personal, it’s nothing against Cam, nothing against the players, it’s what the club needs to move forward.”

It’s understood the club has lost several players as a result of the decision.

Coupar took over as interim head coach of Doveton in 2024 after Rob Marks stepped down, before he was appointed as the senior coach ahead of 2025. Coupar had previously coached a Division 2 reserves premiership with Chelsea Heights in 2022.

Adam Hamilton has been drafted in as the Eagles’ interim head coach for the remainder of this season, with Odgers adding that he had a track record of improving struggling clubs, which was factored into his appointment.

“What we were doing wasn’t working, hopefully he’s a breath of fresh air and can get us back to where we want to be,” Odgers added of Hamilton.

Doveton’s reserves side forfeited its round 8 clash against Clayton last week after it was hit with injuries. It is expected to forfeit again this coming weekend.

“We don’t have a huge list to choose from,” Odgers noted.

“The people that are there now want to be there for the club so I’ll embrace them and see how we go, we’ve got nothing to lose.”

Outgoing Eagles coach Cameron Coupar declined to comment.
