McGuane has followed his former Tiger teammate Jake King to the Colts, where he will play and have a development role under senior coach Lindsay Gilbee.

First Dan Connors. Then Jake King.
And now a third former Richmond AFL player has joined the Southern league, with Luke McGuane linking with King at Division 1 club Port Melbourne Colts.
It’s a lifter for the Lindsay Gilbee-coached Colts ahead of what will almost certainly be a July 25 kick-off for Southern.
Colts president Steve Duvnjak said King had a hand in bringing McGuane to the club.
“Jake basically kept at it him about having a kick and he’s agreed and we’ve put through the clearance,’’ Duvnjak said.
“He’ll play a few games but the big thing for us is he’ll help develop our players. With his great experience we’re looking to him to be important to the development side of things.’’
McGuane, 33, has a barber shop, Code Black, in Albert Park and knows a lot of the Colts players.
He last played football at the club where he started his career, Broadbeach, in the NEAFL in 2018.
Selected by Richmond in the 2004 national draft, McGuane had 105 AFL appearances for the Tigers.
He moved to Brisbane in 2014 and played seven matches in two injury-tailed seasons with the Lions.
In 2016 McGuane played in Keilor’s Essendon District league premiership team under the coaching of his cousin Mick.
It was a productive off-season for the Colts, who, aside from King, also signed Deer Park champion Kwame McHarg and regained key forward Jason Parkins from the same club.
Connors is locked in at St Kilda City.
Meanwhile Duvnjak said he was staggered his club’s former WAFL premiership player Chris Deluca was overlooked in Leader’s list of the top 50 local footballers.
“I was gobsmacked. He could play AFL today if he wanted to,’’ Duvnjak said of Deluca.
“He should have been in the top 10.’’
McHarg came in at No 9 in the list.
