Sandringham Dragons dominate the Victorian AFL Draft Combine invites with 15 boys and girls invited to test out in front of AFL recruiters.

Each state will hold its own combine this season due to COVID-19 and while the Victorian combine date is yet to be confirmed, this is a major step to see which young guns are on the radar.

Recruiting guru Kevin Sheehan last year described the Dragons region as a “hot spot’’ for football talent and so it has proved.

Jake Bowey is the son of former St Kilda rover Brett and first played for the Dragons as a 16-year-old while Max Holmes is the son of Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Lee Naylor.

The Dragons will also see St Kilda father-daughter hope Alice Burke, the daughter of Saints legend Nathan, participate.

Burke is one of two father-daughter prospects with Tarni Brown — daughter of Collingwood great Gavin and sister to Magpies Tyler and Callum — showing promising signs at Eastern Ranges.

Reigning NAB League Boys premier Oakleigh Chargers has six players nominated including No. 1 pick contender and Western Bulldogs academy prospect Jammara Ugle-Hagan.

The 194cm key forward from South Warrnambool produced 24 goals in nine appearances for the Chargers in 2019.

Chargers teammate Finlay Macrae is the brother of Bulldogs ball magnet Jack and, with Will Phillips and Reef McInnes, is regarded as a first-round pick.

Another rising cricket star is tossing up her sporting future with Jess Matin was one of four Dandenong Stingrays girls called up to the AFLW combine.

Matin is an attacking batter for Dandenong’s Premier Cricket First XI.

Girls premier Northern Knights have five invitees, including last year’s grand final best-on-ground Jess Fitzgerald.

The Knights will hope top draft prospect Nik Cox can showcase his rare mix of height and athletic ability that saw him touted as a top-10 pick as a 17-year-old.

Perennial talent factory Geelong Falcons has 11 combine invites including Henry Walsh, brother of Carlton’s Sam, and top-10 prospect Tanner Bruhn.

Despite undergoing a knee reconstruction this year, Murray Bushrangers midfielder Elijah Hollands remains high on the draft radar given the lack of football played this year.

Western Jets had three invitees, including Eddie Ford, who won the Jets’ best player under-17 last year after averaging 14 disposals and almost four marks from 16 games.

Calder Cannons will see four boys participate in the combine but surprisingly didn’t get a nominations for its girls team after making the NAB League grand final last season.

Campbell Edwardes was a part of the Vic Metro hub last season as a 17-year-old while Essendon academy prospect Cody Brand played in the Under-17 Future Stars clash.
