SEAFORD Tigers coach Brett Alexander says his side has taken strides forward this season in VFL Women’s, even though it is yet to win a game.

With a raft of key players sidelined by injury, including league women Nat Plane, Jess Hosking and Kim Ebb, the Tigers have fielded a young and inexperienced side — and losses to Diamond Creek (69 points), Geelong (47), Eastern Devils (54) and VU Western Spurs (46) have ensued.

But Alexander says the the positives far outweigh the negatives.

“The club’s travelling well, we’ve got well over 100 women playing, we had 20 out (injured) on the weekend and still fielded four sides,” he said.

“From a club perspective it’s going extremely well.

“We just haven’t had a win yet (in the VFL).

“Having some key players out has definitely hurt us.

“The level of competition has increased again and probably half of my team is very inexperienced at that level, so it’s taking us a while for us to find our feet but each week we’ve progressively got better, we haven’t gone backwards.”

Seaford will try to crack its duck egg when it faces Cranbourne at Casey Fields on Saturday, at 4.30pm. The game is a curtain-raiser to the Casey Scorpions VFL game.

While its endeavour can’t be questioned, Alexander said Seaford does need to pull up its socks up forward.

“Struggling to get goals on the board has really hurt us,” he said.

“We’re competitive around the ground but just can’t convert when it gets forward.”

The Tigers will get back key players over the coming weeks. Key playmaker Danielle Lawrence is likely to play her first game for the season against Cranbourne this weekend.
