ROSEBUD coach Adrian McBean says his side’s nailbiting draw with Seaford at Olympic Oval on Saturday “felt like a loss’’ after the Buds let slip a six-goal lead.

Rosebud forward Tom Stoffels kicked a behind to knot the scores at 68 in the dying moments — and the ball was a metre from the Buds’ point post when the final siren sounded.

“We played some really good footy early, had most of the ascendancy … and then they (Seaford) came out firing big time and kicked the next six goals (in the third quarter),’’ McBean said.

Seaford outscored Rosebud 6.6 to nil in the third quarter to snatch a six-point lead at the last change.

“We certainly had our opportunities late, and so did they,’’ McBean said. The final score was Rosebud 10.8 (68) to Seaford 9.14 (68).

Brenton Payne (two goals) was outstanding for Rosebud, as were Greg Bentley, Anthony Pegg and Seb Krumeich.

For Seaford, Aaron Walton, Dean Williamson and Matt Gundry led the second half revival.

There were fiery scenes at three quarter time in the Mt Eliza-Bonbeach game at Madsen Reserve, with the Redlegs’ runner involved in a heated exchange with Sharks players.

Tempers boiled as both sides made their way to their respective huddles.

Bonbeach skipper Shane McDonald had just snapped a goal to cut Mt Eliza’s lead to 10 points and seemingly set up a thrilling finish.

Bonbeach kicked the first goal of the last term, but Mt Eliza responded with six unanswered goals to win 15.17 (107) to 9.10 (64) and improve its record to 3-2.

Former Fish Creek star Callan Park, Bailey Breen, Tom Small and Blaine Coates were instrumental for Mt Eliza in the win, while for Bonbeach, which has lost three in a row, Trent Dennis-Lane kicked five goals.

Bonbeach coach Steve Hughes said his side rolled the dice and played with endeavour.

“I felt like we took a lot of risks which I’m okay with,’’ he said. “We probably got forward of the footy a bit, desperate to kick quick goals late … and because we took those risks they opened up the margin at the end of the game. I was okay with that.’’

Sorrento key forward Chris Dawes appeared to suffer a leg injury early in the Sharks’ 62-point win over Mornington at Alexandra Park.

Sorrento won 16.13 (109) to 6.11 (47) to make it four in a row, while Mornington remained winless, 0-5.

Challenged by his coach, Frankston’s AFL recruit Jarrad Grant turned it on as the Bombers defeated Pines by 26 points, 14.14 (98) to 10.12 (72), at Greg Beck Oval.

Grant kicked four goals in the opening quarter to put the Bombers on the path to victory.

He finished with five for the game.

“During the week Jarrad and I had a few conversations about how he was going and what we could do to really get him going because there’s probably been some glimpses of his talent…’’ Frankston Bombers coach Beau Muston said.

“I was really proud of the way he went about it on the weekend, he was ready to go from the start.

“To answer my questions of him and kick four in the first quarter was exactly the result I expected from him.’’

Bombers ruckman Corey Micari continued his fine form, along with Jason Bedford, Corey Buchan and Jason Kingsbury, while Pines’ best were Guy Hendry and Jack Fisher.

Josh Butland slotted five goals as Frankston YCW kept its unbeaten record in tact with a 12-point win over Edi-Asp, 12.16 (88) to 11.10 (76).

Byron Barry, Kyle Hutchison and Ben Wagner were super for the Stonecats, while Angus Macquire and Will Flavelle (four goals) tried hard for the Eagles.
