A BREAKOUT game from young Ringwood forward Jayden Cairns propelled the Redbacks to a 63-point win over Donvale on Saturday.

Cairns booted five second-half goals at Fred Geale Oval to guide Ringwood to a 15.18 (108) to 6.9 (45) win, keeping its undefeated record intact.

Ringwood coach Brett Rowe said Cairns, whose previous best return was a three-goal haul in Round 7 last year, was instrumental in helping the Redbacks to 10-goals-to-one second half.

Cairns came through Ringwood’s junior program and got his first taste of senior football last year, playing seven games.

“(He) kicked three in the third but when we needed that spark up forward he really gave us one,” Rowe said.

“He presented high up across half-forward and got himself on the end of some good delivery and also worked really hard in his tackling pressure.

“A real breakout game for him, he has been consistent for us over the whole year but no doubt that was one of those games young kids have where it just kind of clicks for them.”

Ringwood led by just three points at halftime before piling on 10.12 to 1.6 after the main break.

Trent Farmer also kicked four goals to take his season tally to 19 majors.

“I think the first half, to Donvale’s credit, they really brought some full-on pressure and we just didn’t adjust as quickly as we would have liked,” Rowe said.

“That was probably the most disappointing part but to really respond in that second half, we kicked 7.6 in the third and that was outstanding for us.”

Ringwood will also return to Jubilee Park for the Round 12 fixture against The Basin after redevelopment works to the ground’s surface in the past 12 months.

Elsewhere in Division 3, Heathmont moved to a 4-1 record after a 20-point win over The Basin.
