The Riddell District grand final is returning to Romsey Park.

For the first time since 2017 the decider will be played at Romsey after being held at Sunbury’s Clarke Oval in 2018 and 2019, while no finals were held in 2020 and 2021.

In the four years the venue hosted grand finals between 2014 and 2017, Romsey won two flags, while Diggers Rest and Macedon won one each.

Macedon won the last finale at Romsey Park with a 13-point triumph over Rupertswood.

Romsey Park will also host the qualifying final and minor semi-final.

Wallan’s Greenhill Reserve has been scheduled to host the elimination final, Woodend’s Gilbert Gordon Oval will host the major semi-final and the preliminary final will be played at Macedon’s Tony Clarke Reserve.

The RDFL senior finals will begin on Saturday, August 20 and culminate on Saturday, September 11.

The battle for the top-five now appears a race in two with Macedon sitting in fifth, six points ahead of Woodend-Hesket, with four games remaining.

Romsey all but sealed its spot with a critical win over the Cats at Tony Clarke Reserve on Saturday.

The fight for a finals double chance is also still wide open with Diggers Rest, Riddell and Wallan all in contention.

Diggers Rest’s top-of-the-table win over Riddell puts it in the box seat for a bye in the first week of finals with the Burras now four points ahead of the Bombers.

Wallan is a further two points back and faces the Burras in the final round of the home-and-away season.

If ladder positions remain constant in the final month, Riddell would face Wallan in the qualifying final at Romsey and Romsey would tackle Macedon at Greenhill Reserve.
