DIGGERS Rest celebrated a win for two of its champions and ended Wallan’s unbeaten start to the RDFL season on Saturday.

The Burras marked the 200-game milestones of Tom Gleeson and Stephen Ruane with a 13.18 (96) to 11.8 (74) victory.

COOKE RETURNS IN HUGE BOOST FOR MACEDON

A five-goal-to-one first quarter gave Diggers Rest the impetus for the 22-point win.

The Burras dominated territory in the opening term at Bloomdale Oval, managing 12 scoring shots to two but squandering chances to put the match out of reach.

After putting 5.7 to 1.1 on the board to the first break, Diggers Rest maintained its 30-point advantage with a three-goal second quarter.

The match was effectively over when the Burras stretched their lead to 48 points at three-quarter-time, but Wallan kicked six goals to one to finish on a positive note.

Sean Egan, Stuart Clarke and Jesse Flannery were outstanding for the victors, while Scott Atkinson was Wallan’s best.

Elsewhere, Sunbury Kangaroos stayed in the finals mix with an upset 16-point win over Woodend-Hesket.

The Roos prevailed 8.7 (55) to 5.9 (39), kicking five goals to four after halftime to edge a low-scoring encounter.

Mitchell Streiff and John Corso were the architects of their side’s third win of the campaign, which lifted them to eighth.

Riddell demolished Lancefield by 145 points, Romsey hammered Rockbank by 136 and recruit Nick Grigg bagged seven goals on debut for Rupertswood in its 204-point win over Broadford.

Todd Podolczak led the way for the Sharks with nine majors in their 32.20 (212) to 1.2 (8) victory over the struggling Roos.

Reigning premier Macedon accounted for Melton Centrals by 31 points in the remaining game, 9.5 (59) to 3.10 (28).
