SORRENTO coach Luke Tapscott made the most of a rare footy-free winter weekend by doing something he’d never done before.
He went to the snow.
”I’ve never been there, never seen it,” Tapscott told Pot Shots before heading up to Buller.
“So, I don’t think I’ll be doing much skiing or snowboarding. I’ll get up there and test out the front bar.”
TAPSCOTT revealed how close Sorrento was to securing ex-Melbourne and now Port Adelaide star Jack Trengove.
He said Trengove had basically agreed to play with the Sharks last November, only to receive a call from Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley a couple of hours later.
Tapscott and Trengove are great mates, having grown up together in Adelaide and been drafted by the Demons.
TROY Schwarze made a comeback with Sorrento last week, but fellow Sharks champion Leigh Treeby has shelved plans to play this season.
“He’s not going to play,” Tapscott said of Treeby.
“He’s been training but a combination of things — he’s not sure about concussion from last year and work — and also pushing someone out who has been there all year, he didn’t feel a hundred per cent comfortable doing that.
“He reckons he’s pretty keen to have an extended pre-season and be ready for next year which is a positive.”
PINES ball magnet Luke Potts has gone AWOL.
Well, he’s in Croatia, actually...attending the wedding of his former Dolphins teammate Scott Simpson, who also played with Mt Eliza and Somerville.
Potts, who is Simmo’s best man, isn’t back for another few weeks so he will miss the Pythons’ crucial games against Bombers and Sorrento.
WHAT are the odds of this?
In the Chelsea-Rye game last Saturday week, there was a collision between rivals Tyrren Head (Rye) and James Brain (Chelsea).
A head and brain clash, if you like?
With 36 players on the ground, fancy them coming together.
Fortunately, our intrepid photographer Valeriu Campan was on hand to capture it.
AND we liked this.
In those monsoonal conditions last week, who was Pearcedale’s best player? Gordon Waterfall, who seems to love the wet.
PUT your hands together for Dromana footballer Dan Maestrale.
He played his 250th game for the Tigers last week, of which 245 have been in the reserves, a remarkable effort.
“It displays loyalty and love of the game,” Dromana’s Roger Spaull quite rightly pointed out.
CHELSEA, which will play finals for the first time in seven years, is set to regain some key players in the coming weeks.
Jason Clark is almost ready to play after a hamstring strain, key defender Rhys Hensel is nearly recovered from a broken hand and Lewis Krieger is managing some niggles.
With a healthy list, the pressure is on for spots at the Seagulls.
WHILE Cranbourne hopes to join the MPNFL, a Southern Football Netball League club is said to be also keen to come in.
The club, well administered and boasting a successful history, has made inquiries about joining.
League officials are keen to get a third division up and running in the MPNFL.
MPNFL footy finals venues have been announced.
The first two weekends of the MPNFL Division 1 finals series will be played at Chelsea and Mornington before Frankston Park hosts the preliminary final and grand final (on Sunday, September 16).
Somerville, Rye and Hastings will host finals in Division 2 before the grand final at Frankston Park on Saturday, September 8.
