Pot Shots: Morale still strong in MPNFL clubs, while Rosebud facility ‘amazing’

While there’s no footy, there’s still plenty of high jinks going on in the MPNFL as clubs and players keep themselves entertained.

Even in these testing times, team morale is still strong at local football clubs.

Pines continue to have their Thursday night get togethers, albeit virtually, over Facebook.

Pythons skipper Beau Hendry’s spin the wheel segment has been a highlight, although coach Paddy Swayn might disagree.

Last week Swayn had to do a shot of hot chilli sauce, gulp a teaspoon of cinnamon and wash it all down with three raw eggs.

BUDS BLOOMING

Last year it was a new state-of-the-art pavilion.

Now Rosebud’s Olympic Park Reserve is getting four new light towers, an electronic scoreboard and a double storey coaches box.

Rosebud football coach Nick Jewell joked all that was needed now was some play.

He said when action does resume after the coronavirus crisis, Rosebud would be home to the best facility in the MPNFL.

“It’s the best ground on the peninsula,” Jewell said.

“I know everyone is biased but facilities-wise now, for interleague and finals, just for local footy, it’s just an amazing set up.

“Whale (club president Brett McRae) and the committee have done a power of work. It’s been unbelievable to see the transition from my first time there to now. It’s fantastic.”

ANYONE FOR COFFEE?

Karingal player Steve Mihevc has put in an early nomination for Bulls club person of the year award.

With time on his hands, Mihevc has turned into delivery guy, dropping off coffees to his teammates at building sites.

TRY THIS

And the Facebook challenges from Crib Point assistant coach Andrew Brady have been entertaining.

First up, he came up with the footy bin challenge, which saw him slot a drop punt into a bin (with help of some nifty video editing), all while dressed in Rod Carter’s No.13 Swans jumper.

Then it was some sort of footy swimming challenge that had to seen to be believed.

Well done, Brades! Keep them coming.
