NEW Rosebud coach Adrian McBean knows a thing or two about the Nepean football league.
The former Northern Blues development league coach has followed the local comp while spending time at his peninsula holiday house over the past decade.
“I know a bit about it,’’ he said.
“We’ve had a house down the coast there for about 10 years and I do follow the scores a fair bit. The standard of the competition seems to be on the way up.’’
McBean, 49, spent five years at the Carlton-aligned Northern Blues, where he was part of Brett Ratten and Mick Malthouse’s extended coaching panels.
He and his family also billeted young Carlton players; Patrick Cripps lived with them for a year.
McBean says he’s excited to take charge of a Rosebud list that has enjoyed recent success – it won the flag in 2015 and finished third this year - and remains in the premiership window.
He intends to use his knowledge to help the Buds continue to flourish.
“It will be about developing the list I’ve got,’’ he said.
“It’s a pretty good list and they’ve had some good success over the last few years, especially in the junior program.
“So it will be pretty much developing what we’ve got within.’’
McBean played with Carlton Under 19s but three knee reconstructions ended his career by the age of 24.
Unable to play, he became a coach.
“Before the Northern Blues I coached at Calder Cannons for the Simon Madden and Dick Reynolds squads for a couple of years. So I’ve always been in that development and pathway program,’’ he said.
For the past two seasons McBean has coached Lara in the Geelong league.
