SORRENTO has emerged as a serious contender to snare former Collingwood and Melbourne forward Chris Dawes — if he doesn’t get picked up in the AFL pre-season draft.
The 28-year-old, who was delisted by Melbourne last month, wants to continue his 121-game AFL career and the draft later this month will decide his future.
If overlooked, sources say Dawes could join Sorrento in Nepean league, given his links with the Sharks.
He works for one of Sorrento’s major sponsor, knows several players, including his former Melbourne teammate Luke Tapscott, and his girlfriend is from Sorrento.
“A lot of pieces of the puzzle fit,” a Nepean league source said.
Dawes, who played in Collingwood’s 2010 premiership, would be a huge drawcard for Sorrento and the local competition.
