PINES has emerged as the main challenger to powerhouse Frankston YCW early in the Peninsula league season.

The Pythons made it three from three when they saw off Edi-Asp 18.16 (124) to 12.9 (81) at Regents Park on Saturday.

Pines coach Paddy Swayn says his side, boasting arguably the best spine in the competition, is ready to test the Stonecats. On cue, they meet on Saturday.

With Aaron Edwards, Tim Bongetti, Paul Scanlon, Guy Hendry and Beau Hendry, the Pines spine could easily be the interleague spine.

On Saturday, Bongetti marked everything that came his way and kicked six goals, while Edwards, playing at full-forward, kicked four majors and Guy Hendry took a dozen marks down back.

For Edi-Asp, who were missing several key players, Will Flavelle kicked four goals and young Charlie Martello and Angus Macquire tried hard.

Edi-Asp coach Graeme Yeats said his Eagles, who have lost two in a row, were “a bit scratchy at the moment”.

Seaford had plenty of scoring options as it dispatched Langwarrin 17.13 (115) to 8.8 (56) at Lloyd Park. Daniel Lewis kicked four goals, with Tom Shaw, Matt McCormack, Jackson Mockett and Kyle Nunn two apiece. The Tigers’ best was Kane Taylor, against his former club.

A first-quarter burst of goals put Bonbeach on the path to a win over Chelsea, 17.17 (119) to 10.5 (65). Trent Dennis-Lane slotted five goals and Luke Damon two for the Sharks.

KARINGAL champion Michael Burke became the first Bulls player to reach 300 senior games when he played against Frankston YCW on Sunday.

His stellar career includes six club best and fairests and a league medal.

Classy and courageous, Burke is known for his selfless acts both on and off field.

Frankston YCW won by 43 points to remain unbeaten after three rounds.
