RED Hill has signed former Seaford and Frankston Dolphins star Chris Irving.

Two knee reconstructions cut short Irving’s promising VFL career and he hasn’t played football since 2013.

But he’s told Red Hill coach Tony Blackford he’s confident of making a successful comeback in 2017.

“He’s been an amazing footballer,’’ Blackford said.

“Fingers crossed that he can still play the way he used to play.

“He seems to think he’s got two or three good years (left).’’

Blackford said Irving, who forged his reputation as a dashing midfielder, would “play more forward than he will in the midfield’’ at Red Hill.

“It’s good for us a club. It will generate a bit of interest. Hopefully there might be a couple of other people who might want to play with him,’’ Blackford said.

“We’ve got a few other irons in the fire, so to speak.’’
