Outer East league: Major injury blow for Wandin

Wandin has given an update on an injured star as it looks to maintain its unbeaten run in Outer East league.

Wandin’s 40-point win over Woori Yallock last Saturday was tarnished by a hamstring injury to star recruit Adam Mullett.

The former North Melbourne and Carlton forward suffered the injury in the second quarter after he’d kicked three goals to take his season tally to 26 in five matches.

He leads the league goalkicking table.

Wandin coach Nick Adam said he was unsure of the severity of the injury and said Mullett would have a scan on Thursday.

“The short answer is that I don’t yet,” Adam said when asked how bad the hammy was.

“It’s in the muscle so I don’t think it will be the end of the world.”

Wandin, undefeated and sitting a game clear on top of the Outer East league Premier ladder, faces Pakenham (home) and Upwey Tecoma (away) before having a two-week break in June.

“We play two and then have two weeks off because of King’s birthday and our bye,” Adam said.

Adam declared Mullett would “be back” this season.

Wandin is the highest scoring side in the league, averaging 119.5 points per game, ahead of Narre Warren (108.75), which has played one less game.

With Mullett sidelined, Wandin will look to Clinton Johnson, who sits second on the goal kicking table with 15, Jordan Jaworski, Tom Merlino and Patrick Hodgett to hit the scoreboard.

Connor Smith, Drew Benson and Cody Hirst have been three of Wandin’s best players this season, appearing in the best players in most games.
