Former Victorian Amateur Football Association boss Brett Connell has been appointed as the Outer East Football Netball league’s new chief executive officer.

He will commence his new role on January 24.

Connell was formerly CEO at VAFA for five years, with past roles at the VCFL and AFL Victoria spanning 30 years of high-level administration.

“Brett is well known for his commitment to football and netball games,’’ Outer East said in statement.

“Brett brings to the role a strong playing, teaching (leadership) and administration background, with club development and strategic planning in particular a strength of his.

“Brett is excited to work with the member clubs and stakeholders across Outer East to continue to enhance the great work already done by past and present employees.’’

Connell said he was looking forward to getting started.

“It is a privilege to be working as part of a great ‘community’ football / netball league, in a region that I respect,’’ Connell said.

“I look forward to working with everyone across the Outer East community in ensuring the competition continues to grow from strength to strength”.

Connell succeeds Aaron Bailey as chief executive.

The Outer East Football Netball Competitions Limited Board believes Connell’s experience, passion and knowledge of the region will assist the competition.

“Our strategic plan will be his focus, to ensure we continue to grow and prosper,’’ the league said.

“We see these changes as exciting times for our competitions. We are looking at a review of all current structures, procedures and operations to make our community as effective as possible for all stakeholders, members, volunteers, players and supporters alike going forward.’’

Outer East Chair Tony Mitchell said Connell’s appointment followed a stringent assessment process over the past couple of months.

“We felt Brett was the best fit for our competition as Brett comes highly respected and with a wealth of knowledge second to none,’’ the league said.
