It’s no surprise Heidelberg is the standout club of the past 25 years.

The Tigers have won nine Diamond Valley/Northern Division 1 premierships and are the only club with more than 300 wins.

However, some of the league’s most winningest teams since 2000 will surprise.

Despite not winning a premiership, Montmorency is third, highlighting the Magpies consistency.

Likewise, Diamond Creek in Division 2 in winning the fifth most matches.

Mernda and South Morang also make the top-10, as does Whittlesea, which despite yo-yoing between Division 1 and 2, also has the second most flags to its name.

At the other end of the spectrum, despite being in the DV/NFNL for the entire 25 years, Heidelberg West sits last of all current clubs.

The Hawks sit behind the likes of St Mary’s and Banyule, which have only spent 15 and nine years in the league respectively.

Even Parkside, which left for the VAFA in 2014 has almost as many wins.

In all, 25 clubs have won premierships across the three divisions since 2000.

Old Paradians taking just one year to claim its flag last year.

There have been six clubs spent time in all three divisions.

Epping and Lalor started out the millennium in the top-flight but now find themselves in the bottom tier.

Hurstbridge found itself in the inaugural Division 3 competition in 2009 but made the leap to Division 1 in just eight years.

Crossing from the VAFA, Banyule entered the league in 2015 and made the transition even quickly, reaching the top-flight in seven seasons.

Another former VAFA club, Thomastown, spent one winless season in Division 1, two years in Division 3 and has spent the vast majority of it’s time in Division 2.

Meanwhile, South Morang made perhaps the quickest single transition, after 11 years in Division 3 the Lions went from the bottom to the top in just three seasons after winning the Division 2 flag last year.

Just 17 clubs have tasted Division 1 football and only 10 of those for more than 10 years.

Four clubs have never tasted relegation in the past 25 years – Heidelberg, Bundoora, Montmorency and West Preston-Lakeside.

Lalor, Whittlesea and Epping have all suffered relegation four times, the Bloods also dropping down voluntarily once.

The Pingers dropping twice from Division 1 and twice from Division 2.

The league has also seen plenty of movement in and out of the competition as a whole.

The DV/NFNL has welcomed 12 new clubs since 2000 and bid farewell to four.

Parkside came in 2003, won a premiership in 2009, and left in 2014, while Wallan arrived in 2002 but was gone by 2007.

Kinglake departed in 2007 but made its return in 2022.

Fawkner Park exited when it merged with Essendon District club North Coburg, to form Northern Saints.

Thomastown (2001), Fitzroy Stars (2008), St Mary’s (2010), Banyule (2015), Kilmore (2016), Laurimar (2017), Old Eltham Collegians (2019) and Old Paradians and Ivanhoe (2024) have all stuck around.
