PREMIERSHIP captain Ryan Docherty has joined Reservoir’s bid to return to the field in the Northern Football League next year.
The on-baller spent 2016 with Division 2 club North Heidelberg, playing 13 senior games after crossing from Crispe Park.
Docherty was co-captain of Reservoir’s 2015 premiership with fellow midfielder Danny O’Sullivan.
Reservoir announced he was rejoining the club on Sunday.
Docherty said he was looking forward to getting the club “back where it should be”, while new Mustangs coach Aaron Collins described the midfielder’s signing as “paramount”.
He will likely play his 100th senior match for Reservoir next year after representing the club in 87 games between 2010-2015.
Fellow premiership player Kent Beaumont has also recommitted to the club after a season with Victorian Amateur Football Association side Preston Bullants.
Beaumont booted 15 goals from seven senior games for the Bullants this year after enjoying one of his best seasons at Reservoir in 2015.
He snagged 33 goals from 18 games during the club’s drought-breaking premiership year.
Reservoir has until next month to firm up its playing stocks before the NFL’s fixturing deadline as it strives to return from a season in recess.
The Mustangs experienced a player exodus after their Division 3 premiership, forcing them to withdraw from Division 2 this year.
