HEIDELBERG sits atop the Northern Football League Division 1 ladder, the only remaining undefeated side, after a win over Macleod in a big Anzac Day clash at Warringal Park on Monday.
In finals-like conditions, and in front of a big crowd, the reigning champions started the local derby brightly, opening a 19-point lead by halftime as a wayward Heidelberg could muster just 2.7 for the half.
But, the game tightened as Heidelberg relaced its kicking boots and four goals in the third term left Macleod just three points to the good with a quarter to play.
From there it was one-way traffic as the Tigers stormed home with a seven-goal final quarter to win, 13.10 (88) to 10.7 (67).
Adam Symes and Mathew Pianto booted three goals apiece to lead the Heidelberg revival while Paul Bower, Jake Truefeldt and Michael Brunelli joined Symes and Pianto as the Tigers’ best on the day.
For the Kangaroos, Nick Lynch and Reid Brandt kicked two each while Jack Bianchin, Joel Kidd and Hayden Seivers played well.
