The signings continue to roll in in the Northern Football League.

With just a couple of months to go before Round 1, clubs are finalising their lists for 2023.

While the likes of Ben McNiece joining Bundoora, Chris Ryall crossing to West Preston-Lakeside and Jack Newnes signing for Greensborough has snatched the headlines, there’s been plenty more high-quality recruiting going on.

We’ve wrapped up a big month of off-season moves below.

BEARS MIDFIELD BOOST

Banyule has bolstered its midfield ahead of a maiden Division 1 campaign with the arrival of a Collingwood VFL-listed gun.

Viv Blackmore-Moore joins his brother Reuben at Beverley Road in 2023.

Blackmore-Moore was a part of Ivanhoe’s VAFA Division 2 premiership last season and featured eight-times at VFL level for the Magpies.

The rangy ball-winner won Ivanhoe’s best-and-fairest in 2019 and was named in the Division 2 Team of the Year.

Blackmore-Moore retained his spot on Collingwood’s list for 2023 and will be joined at Banyule by the likes of Kurt Aylett, Jackson Jones, Daniel Costanzo and fellow VFL Magpie Jack Raines.

DOGS’ SON OF A GUN

There will be a son of a gun at North Heidelberg in 2023.

Kane Ronchi will suit up for the Bulldogs this season, following in the footsteps of father Brett.

Brett Ronchi captained the club and is a two-time best-and-fairest winner, while Kane arrives from Whittlesea where he was a member of the Eagles’ under-17 premiership team last season.

The youngster will be given time to find his feet but adds much-needed depth at the Kennel.

VFL HOPEFUL CALLS KENNEL HOME

North has also secured the services of former Northern Knights midfielder Josh Hamilton.

The Yarrambat junior will look to step into senior football at Shelley Reserve and is also eyeing off a list spot with North Melbourne VFL.

Hamilton played eight NAB League games for the Knights in 2022, averaging 18 disposals, four marks and 2.5 tackles a match.

The youngster has elite endurance, posting a 21.8 on the yo-yo test in pre-season testing last year, bettering the likes of top draft picks Harry Sheezel and Josh Weddle.

PANTHERS ADD GUN BIG MAN

Eltham’s recruiting spree under new coach Tim Bongetti continues with another strong addition.

The Panthers have locked in ruckman Tom Goodwin from Corowa-Rutherglen for 2023, adding significant experience alongside young guns Finnbar Maley and David Evans.

Goodwin has had a decorated career having played VFL at Box Hill, Port Melbourne and Coburg, winning the Lions best-and-fairest in 2016 and taking the captaincy in 2017-18.

The big man joined forces with former Coburg coach Peter German at Corowa-Rutherglen in 2021 and earned Team of the Year honours.

He looms as a key addition to a midfield that has already added Jesse Donaldson (Montmorency) and Corey Middleton and Nathan Perrone (Craigieburn).

CREEKERS BOLSTER BACKLINE

After reaching a preliminary final last season, Diamond Creek isn’t shying away from higher ambitions in 2023.

The Creekers have lured junior Billy Bedford back to Coventry Oval for the Division 2 campaign.

Bedford has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Northern Football League and a key member of Greensborough in Division 1 for near a decade.

The backman captained Diamond Creek’s under-17 premiership in 2013 and made his season debut in a final that same year.

Diamond Creek has strengthened its line-up with the likes of Brenton Keating (Bundoora), two-time West Preston-Lakeside Division 1 premiership-winner Mitch Tobin (Avenel) and Bundoora premiership-winner, MPNFL MVP and VFL-listed gun Dale Marshall (East Keilor).
