RESERVOIR has praised the dedication of outgoing coach Aaron Collins after he spearheaded the club’s Northern Football League resurrection during the past two years.

The former Jacana mentor crossed to Crispe Park with the Mustangs in recess and facing a massive rebuild, a year after they snapped a 31-year premiership drought in Division 3.

“It’s a challenge, that’s why I accepted the job though,” Collins said after committing to Reservoir.

While wins have been scarce, the club could not been prouder of Collins’ resolve.

President Steve Bower estimated about 130 players have represented the club in the past two years, many attracted to the club by Collins.

“He has been fantastic, to get the club from nothing to where we are,” Bower said.

“We’ve had, I think roughly 130 blokes over the last two years that he has somehow attracted to it. That’s taken it’s toll on him.

“It’s been a hard slog with numbers and the (losses).”

Bower said work commitments had forced Collins to stand down.

Reservoir finished with a 1-15 record in its return season last year and will end 2018 without a victory unless it can upset finals contender Laurimar on Saturday.

Collins will be replaced by the Mustangs’ current reserves coach David Nelson.

“He has done well with the boys and has them playing finals this year. We think he deserves a shot at it,” Bower said.

“That and just his dedication. He has already started trying to approach players and to sign the ones we have got. Before he was even appointed, he was on the front foot.”

Paul Cluney has been appointed as a playing assistant coach to Nelson.

“He has signed on for a couple of years and has got a couple of blokes who are going to come over and commit,” Bower said.

Reservoir hopes to field an under-19 team next year and is seeking expressions of interest for its first women’s side.

The club is also seeking netballers for 2019.
