JOEL Kidd must have forgotten his job is to rove the packs.

On Saturday, the Macleod small forward launched himself high onto the shoulders of Hurstbridge opponent Tyron Loader, pulling down a mark of the year contender.

Kidd rose into the middle of Loader’s back before momentum carried him higher and he fell almost horizontally to the ground.

Amazed at what they had seen, several of his Roos teammates rushed to Kidd to congratulate him on a spectacular grab.

At recovery on Sunday morning, it was all they wanted to talk about after vision surfaced on social media.

“We were down there this morning and the boys had it on their phones. It was a fantastic mark,” coach Garry Ramsay said.

A jovial Ramsay said Kidd would be disciplined for his high-flying theatrics.

“It’s the first time I have seen him fly for a mark,” Ramsay said.

“He’s in trouble because he is meant to be the small, crumbing forward and he has flown for a big, high mark.

“We have disciplined him internally.”

The hanger had shades of a mark Kidd reeled in during the 2015 Northern Football League Division 1 grand final against Greensborough.

Ramsay said it was “a surprise” we he realised which player had taken the huge mark.

“There was a bit of shock,” he said.

“We have got some other high-marking forwards and when we worked out it was Joel we went, ‘we didn’t see that coming’.”

Kidd, who has kicked three goals from 11 matches this season, booted one major in his side’s 13.10 (88) to 8.9 (57) victory over Hurstbridge.

The result left Macleod three games clear at the top of the ladder as it prepares to take on Greensborough in a top-two clash in Round 12.

“It’s always a fantastic game against Greensborough,” Ramsay said.

“We probably consider them to be our main rivals.

“The clubs have gone down a similar path with what we do, with all our own young players. “They are pretty physical, all in good spirit, but they are often physical games. We are really excited by that.”
