BOBBY Wilson says South Mornington Football Club means the world to him — and that’s why he’s put his hand up to coach the Tigers.

Wilson, who has been a loyal Tiger since the club started an under-18 side in 2002, was appointed for two years on Monday.

He’s been through South Mornington’s highs and lows during a 142-game career, and says the Tigers are at a crucial stage of their journey.

“I want to get the club back to where it was, with two strong sides,’’ he said.

“It’s a massive job ahead. We need to recruit 20 or 30 blokes straight up, really.

“I’m going to try and get a few of the old crew back again.

“I don’t want to see it fizzle out and die.”

Wilson, 32, says his priority is to see South Mornington return to two senior sides (it has fielded one in the past couple of seasons due to a lack of players) and also an under-19s side.

He says much work is ahead, but he’s ready to hook in. This is a job for Bob the Builder.

“I’m absolutely stoked to get the job as senior coach at the club I’ve been at since it started in 2002,’’ he said.

“I’m keen to get us back up with two strong sides next season. If anyone is keen for a kick next season let me know. I can’t wait to get into it.’’

South Mornington’s one and only side won through to the grand final of the VAFA Club XVIII this year.

Wilso, a fine cricketer who is captain-coach of Sorrento Cricket Club, hoped South Mornington could one day join the MPNFL.
