TYABB Football and Netball Club has locked in former Skye captain Aaron Pacey as its new senior playing-coach.
Pacey, 27, is a premiership player at Skye and captained the Bombers for the past eight seasons.
The Tyabb job will be his first senior coaching gig.
“I’m looking forward to getting stuck into it,’’ Pacey, who has been appointed for two seasons, said.
Tyabb has had several lean seasons but Pacey said he was looking forward to the challenge of improving the Yabbies.
“I’ve got a little bit of work ahead of me. It’s definitely a challenge I feel like I am up for,’’ he said.
“I think there are a lot of young, talented kids there and hopefully we can put some mature bodies and structures in place to look after them and help them flourish.’’
Pacey will have a panel of assistant coaches in Matt Haberfield, who will run the bench, along with Brent Nanopolous and Craig Prestage.
Pacey has coaching experience with the FDJFL Under 17 side and also with Skye’s Under 19s.
“Football coaching is something I have really been enjoying working under Ben Walker at Skye,’’ he said.
“I had a bit of time off with injury and really enjoyed developing the young guys around the footy club. It’s definitely a way I could see myself furthering my football career after I decide to hang the boots up.’’
Tyabb president Doug Taylor said the club was thrilled with Pacey’s appointment and was confident he could take the Yabbies forward next year.
“He’s a playing-coach which we haven’t had for a long time and probably something we need now to really develop the side, give direction on the field,’’ he said.
“He’s only 27 but, gee, he’s got a mature brain for football, he really spoke well (in the interview process). He presented very well.’’
Tyabb has also appointed Mat Hose and Nick Bradley as co-coaches of its reserves side, while experienced mentor Andrew Brady will coach the club’s Under 19s side.
