The MPNFL remains keen to recruit new clubs to help form a third division.
Clubs in the Mornington Peninsula region which are currently playing in other competitions will be asked if they’re interested in crossing over to the MPNFL.
But while a proposed third division is at least two years away, the MPNFL is having ongoing discussions with clubs about the growth of the league.

“There is still discussion about a third division,” AFL South East region general manager John Anderson said.
“We’ve got a meeting with club presidents on Wednesday and it’s on the agenda as to how we can get to a division three with clubs within this region.
“We know the clubs won’t vote anyone in from outside the region but if there are clubs within what is perceived as the Mornington Peninsula region that want to come in at the bottom level...strategically that’s something the clubs are looking at.”
Peninsula based clubs like South Mornington, Skye and Southern league newcomer Frankston Dolphins could be asked to join.
Anderson said a third division would allow current division two clubs which are struggling to drop down and “grow again’’.
“It wouldn’t come up next season,” Anderson said.
“It would be something that we’d be looking to go out in an expression of interest type process, to see if there are clubs in the region that would come into a third division and allow a couple of clubs to drop down.
“You look at it in say five years’ time and maybe the competition would be 10 in division one, 10 in division two and eight in division three or something like that.
“Anyway, that’s just something on the drawing board so to speak.”
