Some of Australia’s best young footballers are set to descend on Melbourne this weekend.
The best under 17 boys talent from the eastern states will feature in a double header at Craigieburn’s Highgate Recreation Reserve on Sunday.
The game will be an audition for the 2022 NAB AFL All Stars Futures match set to be played on Grand Final Day.
Vic Country will face off against a NSW-ACT combined side at 10am before Vic Metro and Queensland do battle from 1pm.
Among those selected for the Vic Metro side are five Western Jets who have all enjoyed standout bottom-age seasons at NAB League level.
Key forward Logan Morris will be hoping to continue his impressive goalkicking form against some of the country’s best having booted 26 majors in 11 games this season.
He’ll be joined by Alex Tsia, Darcy Weeks, Diesel Moloney and Jake Smith.
“He’s got excellent hands and can also impact the contest at ground level,” Jets coach Robbie Chancellor said.
“Smith is an inside midfielder who is really starting to grow at NAB League level. He’s growing his outside game and it’s making him a more well-rounded player.
“Alex Tsia is a lot of fun to watch. He’s an energetic small forward who applies fantastic pressure and can also take a hanger so watch out for him.
“Diesel is a tough wingman or halfback, he’s played every game for us this season which is impressive given his age.
“Weeksy has moved to halfback himself in the past few games and has been really creative for us going forward.
“To have five young guns selected in this team is really exciting for the future of our program.”
The Jets group will be coached by former AFLW player Lauren Morecroft who has recently coached Eastern Ranges in the absence of Travis Cloke.
Dandenong Stingrays assistant coach Josh Moore will lead Vic Country.
