The turmoil engulfing Mt Eliza Junior Football Club is set for a potentially fiery climax later this month.

The club has scheduled a special general meeting on Wednesday, June 19 when a new executive and general committee is expected to be elected.

There’s also sure to be emotive discussion on the club’s recent upheaval, which includes the club being banned from holding home games.

But just where the SGM will be held is in dispute.

Mt Eliza’s interim committee wants the meeting to be at its home clubrooms at Madsen Reserve.

But Frankston and District Junior Football League has proposed it be held at Frankston Park “to accommodate the large numbers of attendees’’.

“The league made that announcement without our consultation,’’ MEJFC treasurer Marcus van Enk said.

The scheduling of the SGM follows five weeks of turmoil at Mt Eliza JFC which includes most of its committee resigning, misconduct speculation and the FDJFL finding the MEJFC “not compliant’’ to hold home games.

Mt Eliza Junior Football Club is Australia’s biggest junior football club, with more than 800 players.

At the special general meeting, Mt Eliza intends to ask the Frankston and District Junior Football League and AFL South East to formally investigate any actions of potential breaches of the club constitution and policies.

The meeting is open to all current financial club members.

On arrival at the meeting, members will sign in and confirm their current membership status with the appointed admin representative.

Last Friday the FDJFL sent a letter prepared by a lawyer to Mt Eliza JFC members listing 38 points that it “understands the current circumstances” to be.

The FDJFL wrote: “Members of the club are currently in dispute over a range of issues. For present purposes it is not necessary to address the substance of those disputes.”

The league has also proposed the SGM should be managed by an independent person.
