Leading community football coach Paddy Swayn says he’s lucky to be alive after suffering a cardiac episode on Friday night.
The Pines premiership mentor was rushed to Frankston hospital by ambulance after his wife, Mel, found him frothing from the mouth and shaking while in bed.
His heart stopped while he was in the ambulance.
“I had six to 10 seconds apparently when I didn’t have a heart beat at all,” Swayn said from hospital on Sunday.
Swayn, 50, had a pacemaker implanted on Saturday.
He said he’s had a slow heart rate and experienced dizziness in recent weeks.
“I passed out at the gym the other week,” Swayn said.
“Mel said to me, ‘both your fists were locked up, you were shaking and you started frothing from your mouth’. That was in bed Friday night.”
Swayn, who coached Pines to the 2018 MPNFL Division 1 premiership, said he hoped to still lead the Pythons in the 2021 season.
“I should be right for footy,” he said.
“I’ll see how it goes.
“I’ll try and not get too fired up, that’s all.”
Swayn said he received many messages of support from players, opposition coaches and friends.
