MPNFL 2021: Two ex-AFL players inspire Langwarrin to victory over Devon Meadows

A former Sydney Swans young gun who was playing at the elite level less than a year ago turned in a fast and furious display in MPNFL Division 2.

Langwarrin co-coach Josh Beard succinctly summed it up.

“He brained ‘em,” he said.

Beard was talking about Zac Foot after the former Sydney Swan fired off six goals in Langy’s 93-point win over Devon Meadows at Lloyd Park on Saturday.

Foot made an explosive start, booting the opening two goals of the game, and combined with ex-AFL Bomber Mark Baguley, who slotted three goals, to blitz Devon, 18.20 (128) to 5.5 (35).

It’s just a shame there was crowd there to see the show.

Foot, who played two games for the Swans in August last year, lined up for Langy because his VFL side Casey Demons had a bye.

“He’s just a jet,’’ Beard said.

Beard said Foot’s speed and fitness put him on another level.

“He doesn’t seem to break stride or lose any pace no matter what the situation, whether he’s winning contested footy or picking up a half volley off the deck, his speed is elite,” Beard said.

Luke Churcher, Blake Peach, Mitch Cuthbert and Jaiden Jakubenko also ran rampant for the undefeated Langwarrin (9-0), which sits two games clear of its nearest rival in MPNFL Division 2.

League-leading goal kicker Jackson Calder kicked his 50th goal for the season after a bag of eight for Mornington in its 62-point win over Pearcedale.

Calder’s Bulldogs teammate Jimmy Cameron drilled six goals in his first game for the season.

Former Melbourne forward Mitch White slotted six goals for Seaford in its 16.11 (107) to 8.9 (57) win over Somerville.

White, the Casey Demons’ captain, played due to a bye in the VFL.

Former St Kilda midfielder Tom Curren capped a best-on-ground display for Karingal with three goals as the Bulls dispatched Tyabb, 21.10 (136) to 5.10 (40).

Curren’s midfield partner Scott Jansen also impressed, as did Sam Glenn with four goals.

Chelsea scored a vitalwin over Hastings, with Shaun Foster outstanding and Curtis Bywater slotting five majors.

Rye’s ever-reliable defenders Nick Strickland and Matt Hill again starred as the Demons edged Crib Point by eight points, 8.17 (65) to7.15 (57).
