Seaford had high hopes for former Collingwood player Tim Broomhead after recruiting him straight out of the AFL.

And the 27-year-old delivered, perhaps even exceeding expectations in his first season in the MPNFL.

Broomhead not only won Seaford’s best and fairest award but he also was the Tigers’ leading goal kicker in season 2021.

He kicked 27 goals in 13 games out of the midfield to help Seaford emerge as a flag contender in Division 2 before the season was cut short.

Seaford coach Zac Vansittart was thrilled with the highly skilled Broomhead’s season.

“We were pretty ecstatic to get a player straight out of the AFL so we knew obviously he was going to be a high quality footballer,” he said.

“I suppose the next thing is how they are going to fit in to more a community club environment as opposed to an AFL environment.

“I think that’s been the biggest plus, he’s come in and fit in really well among the group and ended up being one of the boys.

“I think he’s enjoyed not having the stresses of playing AFL footy.”

Broomhead played 37 games for Collingwood after being recruited with pick number 20 in the 2012 AFL draft.

Another recruit, ruckman Macklin Raine, was runner up in the Tigers’ B&F, while teenagers Joel Filippone and Ishak Bashir were third and fourth respectively.

Vansittart, who has been reappointed coach, is excited about the future for the Tigers, who moved back to their home base RF Miles Reserve late in the season.

“We’ve got this massive talent pool coming through from our under 19s,” he said.

“They were undefeated this year. So we’ve got over a dozen of them coming up into senior ranks next year.’’

Vansittart said nine under 19s had a taste of senior football this year at Seaford.

“The scary thing is there’s still (a lot more)…for example the under 19 best and fairest winner (Sam Ridgway), he’s still under 19 next year,” Vansittart said.

“There’s still five or six really quality kids that actually played seniors this year at different times that will still be under 19s next year.

“We’re pretty excited with that group coming through.

“We’re still looking for a real high quality player if there’s one out there but other than that our depth is going to come through promoting our youth.”

Seaford’s best and fairest results:

U19s: Winner - Sam Ridgway. Runner-up - Koby Frey.

Reserves: Winner - Rizwan Harun. Runner-up - Callum White.

Seniors: Winner - Tim Broomhead. Runner-up - Macklin Raine.
