Three years after a broken leg curtailed his AFL career, a former Magpie has sizzled for Seaford in the MPNFL.

Seaford’s class and young talent was on full display as it scored an 86-point win over Tyabb in MPNFL Division 2 on Saturday.

Former Collingwood player Tim Broomhead capped a best-on-ground display with four goals for the Tigers.

Broomhead, whose career at the Pies was curtailed when he broke his left leg running into the goalpost at the MCG in 2018, combined beautifully with Aaron Walton, who slotted three majors, while Ishak Bashir, Matt Herbert, Justin Laughlin and Koby Frey were in everything for the Tigers.

Seaford piled on nine goals in the last quarter to win 21.15 (141) to 8.7 (55) and make it two on the trot.

Langwarrin co-coach Josh Beard was relieved rather than rapt with his side’s six-point win over Karingal, 7.16 (58) to 8.4 (52).

Beard felt Karingal controlled play for the majority of the game at Ballam Park.

“I think Karingal deserved more credit, the entire game was played on their terms,” he said.

“Their ball movement and ability to keep the footy out of our hands...they were super and we were able to hang on and get the job done with probably a bit more experience, that was about it.”

Langwarrin found inspiration from wholehearted big man Matt Naughton, who rucked for four quarters.

“Big Red doesn’t get the accolades he deserves because he does it week in, week out for four quarters,” Beard said.

“He kept giving our mids first use of the footy when were under the pump and we needed a clearance.”

Josh Dormer and Matt Peynenborg kicked two goals apiece for Langwarrin, which is undefeated after three rounds.

Langy’s Blake Peach, prime mover Zac Andrewartha, Chad Mulvogue and Shane Paterson also featured prominently.

For Karingal Josh Bradley, Tom Curren, Scott Jansen and Sam Glenn tried hard.

Crib Point co-captain Zak Dekleuver suffered a suspected ACL injury in his side’s 24-point loss to Devon Meadows.

Dekleuver left the ground in the third quarter as Devon made its winning move, out scoring Crib seven goals to three in the second half.

Devon Meadows coach Neil Craig said it was a vital win for his Panthers.

“It was really important for the club to get that win,” he said.

“I put it on a few blokes...so we sort of loosened the reins at half time, and we played some good footy.

“The young fellas can tend to seize up a little bit...I said, ‘fellas, you’re better than them on the outside, just play footy, play the way you know you can’.”

Doncaster recruit Isaac Barassi gave a dominating performance, capped off by two goals, for Devon Meadows.

Liam Berry, Aaron Johns, Joel Hillis and Rory Hillis also impressed for the Panthers, who had their own injury concerns with Matt Fletcher (groin) and Justin Kiss (concussion) not playing after half time.

Rye continued its eye-popping start to the season with a strong 20-point win over Somerville, 15.6 (96) to 11.10 (76).

Oscar Whitty slotted two goals to be best-afield for the Demons, who are undefeated and on top of the ladder after three games.

Nick Rowson, Dylan Allen, Louis Barbour, Mitch Glenn and Ben Dickson also had a big say in the win, as did Jordan Capkin, with three majors.

Mornington produced the comeback of the round, turning a half-time deficit of seven points into a 13-point victory over Hastings.

Bulldogs spearhead Jackson Calder slotted six goals in the 10.11 (71) to 8.10 (58) win.

Will Lewis, Lachlan Susovich, Todd Paganoni, Will Goosey and Nathan Heath also impressed for the doggies.

For Hastings, skipper Luke Hewitt kicked four goals before half-time and Luke Clarke kicked three majors in the second half.
