And Tyson Milne, son of former Saint Stephen Milne, has a bright future judging by his debut performance for Bonbeach in MPNFL Division 1 on Saturday.

The teenager, who is on Sandringham’s VFL list, was one of the Sharks’ best players in their slick 70-point win over Rosebud at Cannes Ave.

In fact, there was a strong St Kilda flavour in the victory, with ex-Saints Sam Gilbert, David Armitage and Trent Dennis-Lane (four goals) contributing strongly in the 14.20 (104) to 5.4 (34) win.

Former VFL star Mitch Gent was arguably Bonny’s best player.

Rosebud lost skipper Greg Bentley with a torn hamstring in the opening minute and the Buds were always battling to contain the slick Sharks.

Buds coach Nick Jewell said Bonbeach was the benchmark in the league.

“I think so, with what we’ve seen so far,” Jewell said.

“Pretty much all their senior players had a huge impact on the game, Armitage, Gilbert, Dennis-Lane and Gent.

“They were all terrific so it’s hard to stop when those guys get going.

“They were just too clean and moved the ball too well.”

Bonbeach also benefitted from the pace of Jack Sullivan, who capped an excellent game with two goals.

VFL experienced Lachlan Gill-Renouf kicked three goals for Bonbeach.

Rosebud also lost full-back Jari Kennedy with a hamstring injury. Star player Sean Downie is already sidelined with a hammy.

The Buds host Frankston Bombers and Mt Eliza in the next two weeks and Jewell is bracing for “a tough little period” as key players sit out.

“No doubt. It’s going to be a tough little period, these three or four weeks, especially when it’s all out of your midfield (that is out),” he said.

“That makes it a challenge but it’s an opportunity for those who have been wanting to play in there. We’ll see if they can do a job.”

Bonbeach, which sits on top of the ladder, travels to Sorrento next weekend.
