Former AFL star Brett Deledio set to play with Devon Meadows in MPNFL
An AFL Tiger fan-favourite is set to pull on the boots in the MPNFL on Anzac Day — and the word is he’s never been fitter.
Mornington
Don't miss out on the headlines from Mornington. Followed categories will be added to My News.
Devon Meadows coach Neil Craig says the fans will get what they want.
And that is to see Brett Deledio in full flight, playing at full forward.
The former Richmond and GWS star will pull on the Panthers jumper against Mornington at Glover Reserve on Anzac Day this Sunday.
It will be the only MPNFL game on the day and Devon Meadows is hoping for a bumper crowd.
Craig says Deledio is super fit after training for triathlons and is likely to play a key role up forward.
“Do you have to give the people what they want and play him at full forward?,’’ Craig said.
“Probably.”
Mornington has its own gun spearhead in Jackson Calder, who has booted 18 goals in three games.
Craig says it could be a potential shoot-out between Calder and Deledio.
Devon Meadows and Mornington both go into the game with a 2-1 win-loss record.
It will be the first of two appearances for Devon Meadows by Deledio over the next three weeks.
He is locked in to play again for the Panthers on May 8, against Hastings, in another home game.
The two-time All-Australian and two-time Richmond best and fairest winner will train with his new teammates on Thursday night and speak at a luncheon before the game on Sunday.
“It’s great for the club,” Craig said.
“Whether it equates to wins, we don’t know.
“He will train at the club during the week and get to know some names. And hopefully he likes it.”
