TROY Schwarze will kick-start his footy career at the age of 36.
The former St Kilda player retired after playing in (and coaching) Sorrento’s grand final victory last year, seemingly content with six premiership.
But he’s got itchy feet and has been training with the ladder-leading Sorrento Sharks in recent weeks with a plan to return.
“I guess you are a long time finished and I still feel okay,” Schwarze said.
Sorrento’s Troy Schwarze is worried the new division structure will drive players away from football
“My wife’s telling me to get out of the house and go and do something, so I think she can see there’s an itch I need to scratch.”
Schwarze’s Sorrento premiership teammate Leigh Treeby is also making a comeback.
Treeby has just finished his commitments as a contestant on Channel Seven’s House Rules program.
Sorrento coach Luke Tapscott is happy to have the experienced pair back involved.
“Yeah, as long as it works for the dynamics of the team and it doesn’t upset anything, for sure,’’ he said.
“I can’t imagine anyone would be unhappy having two club legends come back in.”
Asked if Schwarze and Treeby would step straight into the senior side, Tapscott wasn’t sure.
“That’s obviously something we’ve got to work out once they are up and going,’’ he said.
